AB - Spanish: Objective: To document the prevalence and co-occurrence of coital (vaginal, anal) and noncoital (oral, mutual masturbation) sexual activities among heterosexual Iberoamerican descents in Canada.
Method: 292 Iberoamerican descents living in Canada (56.6% women, 43.5% men) participated in an online survey. They were aged 18 to 69 years old (mean = 30; SD = 8.7). A majority of participants were foreign-born residents (62%) and 34% were Canada-born children of foreign-born parents. Participants described themselves mostly as heterosexuals (70%), homosexuals (14%) or bisexuals (10%).
Results: The last sexual event mostly occurred with a lover or a dating partner (88%). Vaginal intercourse was the dominant script among the participants (93%), followed by oral sex (76%) and mutual masturbation (75%); anal sex was rare among the participants (2.5%). About 6% reported coital activities only. There were no differences between men and women regarding sexual scripts. Single participants were less likely than partnered participants to report noncoital activity at their last sexual event.
Conclusion: While vaginal intercourse is the most common sexual script, its frequent combination with mutual masturbation and oral sex suggests the predominance of a recreational orientation toward sexual activity. Oral sex and mutual masturbation are less likely to be integrated into the sexual repertoire of single, sexually active participants, which might suggests that they are socially and culturally codified as more personal, intimate activities, while coital sex appears to be codified as more impersonal by these heterosexual, Iberoamerican participants.
