AB - Spanish: Two old men sing and accompany themselves on an indigenous kind of guitar that is unique to the Lambayeque highlands. In between songs, they tell us about their youth, and how their passion for music is inseparable from their passion for
women. Here music is not a cultural "product" that can be clinically isolated in
a studio, but is revealed as inseparable from a chaotic continuum of alcohol, seduction, sexuality, and laughter.
Men        and        women wait in        silence for something to happen. A solitary engineer        with        a laptop computer (surrounded by        anthropologists, native assistants and        casual onlookers) communes        with        the        unseen gods        of stereo recording.        Outtakes        from        the recording        of a CD of        traditional        songs and music. Gestures of        discomfort and        generosity.
